Being coachable doesn't mean blindly doing everything your coach tells you to do - but it does require a level of humility and trust, and a willingness to try new things. Most people think about trying to find the best coach, not trying to be the best client. It's a two way street, you need a good coach and you also need to be a good client.
You need to have a student mindset, and bring patience to the process - this is why coachable clients get the best results.

Being mentally tough over mentally weak isn't about having to 'man up' or hide your emotions. It's about doing the things you said you were going to do even when they're uncomfortable. It's being willing to see and make short term sacrifices for the long term gains.
 
Todays society is focused on instant gratification and immediate reward, to the point where people are numbed to the idea of having to delay gratification, or have to do uncomfortable things. In order to have anything worthwhile you have to be willing to get uncomfortable, and that requires some degree of mental toughness.
